Germany - Turnover in the hotel and restaurant industry expected to be down 2% in real terms in 2004
WIESBADEN – As reported by the Federal Statistical Office, turnover in the hotel and restaurant industry in Germany is expected to be down by about 1% in nominal terms and 2% in real terms in 2004 when compared with 2003. This means that the hotel industry would record a decrease in annual turnover for the third time in a row, which however would be much smaller than in the preceding years (2003: –4.6% in nominal terms and –5.5% in real terms; 2002: –4.6% in nominal terms and –8.1% in real terms).
In November 2004 turnover in the German hotel and restaurant industry increased 0.5% in nominal terms compared with the corresponding month of the preceding year. In real terms, the turnover decreased 0.2%. Adjusted for calendar and seasonal variations (Berlin Method 4.1 – BV 4.1), the November turnover was in nominal terms 0.5% and in real terms 0.2% larger than that of the preceding month.
Compared with the previous year, turnover in the German hotel and restaurant industry decreased 0.8% in nominal terms and 1.6% in real terms in the first eleven months of 2004.
