The International Green Week Berlin is among the oldest established trade fairs in the city as well as being one of the best-known events in the whole of Germany. This year the doors will be opening at the Green Week for the 70th time. From being purely a local produce mart it has now become the most important international trade fair for the food industry, agriculture and horticulture, involving hundreds of thousands of consumers every year. Since 1926 some 69,000 exhibitors from 114 countries have presented over 28 million trade visitors and members of the public with a comprehensive range of products from every continent.

With its new market segments, once again the Green Week reflects the latest trends in 2005. It is presenting aspects as varied as water buffalo farming, the new trade fair WELLNESS PLUS and new food products and marketing concepts, offering a wealth of highlights and an extensive range of specialities from every continent, and the many different aspects of modern agriculture are presented as well as countless creative opportunities from every area of horticulture. With all these features the Green Week satisfies the needs of the experts and the public alike.

Between 21 and 30 January a total of 1,636 exhibitors from 55 countries (1,158 domestic/478 foreign) will be presenting an impressive and varied array of food items and agricultural products on an overall display area measuring 114,000 square metres in the halls on the Berlin Exhibition Grounds. The International Green Week Berlin is organised by Messe Berlin GmbH. Its non-commercial sponsors are the German Farmers’ Association (Deutscher Bauernverband - DBV) and the organisation representing the German food industry, Bundesvereinigung der Deutschen Ernährungsindustrie (BVE). The Green Week 2005 will be officially opened by Renate Künast, Federal Minister for Consumer Protection, Food and Agriculture, at 6 p.m. on 20 January at the ICC Berlin. This year the Czech Republic will be acting as partner country for the first time at the Green Week. Germany’s Federal President Horst Köhler is the patron of the International Green Week Berlin 2005.
